Printing and Painting of Grendizer

Welcome to my print and paint session for Grendizer. Grendizer is one of the most famous robots from Japan anime from the genius of Go Nagai. In Italy is better known as Goldrake or Atlas Ufo Robot, in France as Goldorak. Don’t forget to visit in the future the build of the minidisc piloted by Koji (or Alcor for italian users), that was my first attempt to print something from the franchise.

First of all I printed all the parts from an stl that I downloaded on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4801399) with my Ender Neo 3. It’s not the only one available but in the end I chose this one without mobile parts because the scope is just to display it somewhere in my house.

Second I put all the parts in a bath of Acetone (you will see the details going to the build of the Phenix from Star Trek that I will post in few days) to remove all the seams of the printer and having a smoother surface.
After that I carefully drilled holes in all the joints to use them as support points during the panting. Actually I did not take a lot of pictures during the process but first I painted all in black and white primer according to the sections and then carefully masked to have the right colors in the right place.

The most painful things were the arms because I wanted to leave the white border of the rotating sleeves.
After the body I did the head, that I painted completely by hand.

And finally a coat of Transparent Matt, some details and lines done with rapidograph on the head and with pastels on hands and legs, and finally a final coat of transparent gloss.

I will just put it on a black round stand that I printed and painted dark grey.

Hope you enjoied.
